The primary motivation in my practice evokes senses beyond the visual; this began with touch and smell, but has recently progressed into sound and video works. The use of different materials is the most important aspect of my work as this directly correlates to the multi-sensory. My main aim is to prioritise the emotive qualities of the work over the aesthetics. In my physical artwork, abstraction allows for the textural aspect to become a focal point of the work. In my written work, the use of language has become a real focal point.
The gestural nature of the work and juxtaposition of these elements allows the audience to experience the work through the body, becoming more than a spectator. This lends the work well to being part of an installed space, allowing the audience to use more than their eyes to see.
